Kona Village Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii is a unique hideaway where you can unwind and get closer to nature without hearing any sounds of phones and TVs.
The resort caters to couples seeking romance as well as families wanting to spend time together. Polynesian-style hale have private lanai and are located either overlooking the beach, the lava flow or tropical ponds. Guests spend their days trying out new activities, exploring rich Hawaiian marine life in the bay, or just relaxing on the beach.
Guest Accommodations
Kona Village Resort offers 125 individual hale (Polynesian-style thatched-roofed bungalows) spread out on 82 tropical acres. The hale are all different in style, size and view. There are three distinct areas of the resort guests can choose from. The south side offers palm trees and tropical foliage, the lagoon area features abundant wildlife and the north site is built on the 1801 lava flow.
Twenty tree oceanfront hale offer private whirlpool spas for added romance and comfort.
Where to Eat
Breakfast and lunch, as well as a late lunch are offered at the main restaurant during pre-set dining times.
For dinner, guests have a choice of two restaurants and one decides between the two each day. The cuisine is light with emphasis on fresh island-grown vegetables and fish. On Fridays, the resort hosts the legendary Luau which has been their tradition for 0 years. Following a delicious feast, the evening features hula dances of Hawaii, the Samoan fire knife dance, New Zealand's Maori warrior haka and the Tahitian tamure.
Things to See & Do
The resort is located on 82-acres of tropical paradise with a large private beach. Guests can explore the resort bay with its richmarine life, including Hawaiian green sea turtles, yellow butterfly fish and blue tangs. Adjacent to the resort beach is the Kahuwai Bay, a protected marine sanctuary, where you may spot green sea turtles basking in the sun. Almost every night, manta rays swim into the light in front of the Hale Moana restaurant for everyone to see.
There are a number of activities to choose from, including snorkeling, kayaking and sailing right off the beach. The resort organizes daily volleyball games and glass bottom boat tours. There is also tennis, fishing and scuba diving.
Scuba diving is provided by Kona Reef Divers, a NAUI- and PADI-certified dive operation. Guests can dive over 40 sites on the Kona Coast, with depths averaging from 20 to 60 feet. The dive sites are only three to ten minutes from the resort so you will not have to spend much time in the boat getting there. The resort also offers a 5-day certification course and provides all of the essential equipment.
Vacation Tip
If you are stay seven days or longer, you can request a specific hale or floor plan. Try one of the 23 oceanfront hale with a private whirlpool spa.
If you go between December to April, you may see North Pacific humpback whales migrate from Alaska to Hawaii right off the beach.
How to Get There
Kona International Airport is the closest airport, 6.5 miles from the resort. Most major airlines provide service to Honolulu. From Honolulu, Aloha Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Go! fly to the Kona International Airport. Guests can arrange to be picked up at the airport by the resort or take one of the taxis accross the street.
