Established in 1793 by the French Republic, the Louvre Museum in Paris, is one of the earliest European museums. One of the world's most famous museums, the Louvre houses many different types of art including, paintings, prints and drawings, sculpture as well many other art collections and travelling exhibits.

The museum is open daily, except Tuesdays and certain public holidays, from 9am to 6pm. The main entrance to the Louvre is through the Pyramid which was designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei and added to the museum in 1985. Upon entering the Louvre, visitors can pick up a free museum handbook, which is available in nine languages. If you prefer to listen rather than read, an audio guide is provided for visitors to the museum for a fee of five euros.

To avoid queueing at the ticket booths or in front of the pyramid, it is possible to buy your ticket in advance for the Louvre Museum and its temporary exhibitions.
