Fall foliage is the most popular time to stay at the Mountain Top Inn. Since the resort is only three hours from Boston and five hours from New York City, many drive to the inn to experience the legendary Vermont fall foliage from late September to mid-October.
In the summer, the Mountain Top Inn attracts family vacationers looking for outdoor adventure. In addition to miles of hiking trails, there is boating and swimming in the 860-acre lake. If you find the lake water too cold to take a plunge, you can relax next to the heated outdoor pool.
The Equestrian Center is home to 35 horses and offers instruction for riders of all skill levels.
The 52 miles of trails which are used for horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking in the summer, are turned into groomed trails for cross-country skiing, snow shoeing and romantic sleigh rides when the Vermont landscape becomes blanketed with snow.
The Mountain Top Inn has 33 rooms, 5 rustic cabins and chalet rentals. The cabins have one or two bedrooms with wood burning fireplaces and are pet-friendly.
The hotel has two restaurants - the elegant Highlands Restaurant and a more casual Highlands Tavern. Both restaurants offer scenic mountain views.
