Sea Island is famous for its championship golf which, after recent renovations, is better than ever. There are a total of 54 holes, including the 18-hole Plantation Course opened in 1998 and designed by Rees Jones. The 18-hole Seaside Course was renovated by Tom Fazio and reopened in 1999. The third course, the Retreat Course was renovated by Davis Love III and reopened in 2001. The resort offers the Golf Learning Center, a golf school with video studios and many practice facilities. You can learn to play golf on Sea Island or just polish your game.The Sea Island resort features a spa with fitness facilities. Guests can participate in specialized classes as well as personalized fitness and wellness programs. Other resort activities include tennis, horseback riding, sunset cruises, boating, fishing, shooting school, kayaking, swimming and diving lessons.
Sea Island is also a family destination, where kids can choose from numerous vacation activities. Children play afternoon tennis free of charge and can participate in complimentary golf and tennis clinics. During the summer, Spring Break and holidays, the resort provides a program for kids ages 3 to 11.
Resort Rooms & Food
The Cloister offers over 260 guest rooms and suites situated in various houses on Sea Island. The Retreat House, Hamilton House and Harrington House are located on the beach, while the newer Guest Houses and the Terrace Houses are located between the beach and the tennis center.Guests visiting Sea Island can also stay at The Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club, opened in March 2001. The Lodge offers 40 luxurious guest rooms and suites situated above the clubhouse with golf course or ocean views. If you and your family need more space, you can rent one of the 2 to 5-bedroom private homes on Sea Island, called the Cottages.
The resort's main dining room at The Cloister offers live music and dancing during the warmer months. The Terrace dining room, located at the Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club, serves continental cuisine with a Southern flair. Colt & Alison's, also located at the Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club, is a unique restaurant with attention to detail, serving dry-aged beef, chops and seafood. Casual meals are served at the Beach Club and at the Davis Love Grill.
Best Time to Go & Getting There
Late spring, summer and early fall are the best times to go to enjoy warm weather. Sea Island is one hour by car from Savannah, Georgia and one hour from Jacksonville, Florida. Private aircraft can land at McKinnon Airport on St. Simons Island, four miles away.
