Wilson Island Tropical Vacation

Take a unique journey to a tiny coral cay which is a part of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. P&O Australian Resorts is offering a five-day package tropical vacation that lets you experience the beauty and seclusion of Wilson Island.
Wilson Island is located just north of the Tropic of Capricorn, approximately 50 miles north east off the coast of Gladstone and 9 miles from nearby Heron Island. Gladstone is 330 miles north of Brisbane and 735 miles south of Cairns.
The island can only accommodate 12 guests at a time (children under 16 are not allowed). There are six permanent tents, all with reef and ocean views. Each tent includes raised timber floors, a shower, dressing area, toilets, a king size bed, deck chairs, bathrobes, bath and beach towels and guest toiletries.
The travel itinerary includes arrival on Heron Island where guests are met by Wilson Island hosts. On the second day, guests are transferred to Wilson Island - the timing will depend on the tide.
Wilson Island offers an abundance of activities, such as guided island walks, snorkeling, stargazing, bird watching and relaxing on the beach. In season, you may be able to spot Green and Loggerhead turtles laying their eggs or their baby hatchelings emerging from their nests.
Half day diving charters are available on board a custom built 9m mono hull vessel. Advance booking is required for scuba diving (half day charters cost from 600 Australian dollars).
Most meals are served in the Longhouse, the central dining and relaxation area with a long table, a banquette seating area and an open kitchen. The Community Tent features open sides, day beds, magazines, binoculars and stunning ocean views.

The island has a tropical climate with average year-round temperature of approximately 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Regular flights are available from all Australian capital cities to Gladstone with Qantas. For connections between Gladstone and Heron Island, speak with the resort at the time of booking.
