Barbados is a small island that is only 21 miles long and 14 miles wide. Despite its size, Barbados has a lot to offer to travelers. The friendliness of Barbadians is one of the main reasons that 39% of all tourists visit the island more than once. The people, the beaches and luxurious resorts make Barbados a wonderful beach vacation destination.
What to Do
Barbados offers vacationers a wide range of outdoor activiteis including golf, fishing, horseback riding, scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailing, and surfing. If all the activity gets to be too much, you can always grab a chair on the beach or by the pool.

Getting to Barbados
Grantley Adams International Airport is the one airport on the island. The airport is served by American Airlines, Air Jamaica, US Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airlines, British Airways and West Indies Airways.
Flight Times to Barbados
New York to Barbados - about 4 hours and 40 minutes.
Miami to Barbados - about 3 hours and 30 minutes.
London to Barbados - about 8 hours and 40 minutes.

The lowest airfares (special deals not included) can usually be found in the fall, but you run the risk of bad weather.
Getting Around While You Are There
Taxis are available at Grantley Adams International Airport to take you to your resort. The ride to most resorts will take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes.
If you prefer to drive yourself you can rent a car from one of the many car rental companies in Barbados when you arrive. Some car rental companies can arrange to have the car delivered to you at your hotel. However, you will need to obtain a mandatory local driving permit for $5 before you can drive in Barbados. You can also get the permit from your rental company.
When To Go
The dry season in Barbados is from January to June. Hurricane season generally runs from June to October. You will find lower rates in the summer season.

Make sure you know where your hotel is in relation to the airport, so that you have some idea of how long it will take to get there. Many travelers arrive thinking that everything is five minutes away, only to be surprised by a one-hour ride to their resort.
