Arizona Vacation: The Grand Canyon

One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona is a unique vacation destination that draws 4 million visitors visitors from all over the world every year. Most visitors arrive at the South Rim, which can be quite crowded during the peak summer season. The best time to arrive at the entrance station is before 10 am and after 4 pm to avoid the lines.

Grand Canyon accommodations include seven hotels, camping and backcountry camping which requires a permit. The park can be visited by foot, air, river, mule, and train.

Grand Canyon is 4,500 feet deep at the South Rim and 5,700 feet deep at the North Rim. The South and the North Rim are located at an elevation of 7,000 and 8,200 feet, respectively. Grand Canyon is 10 miles wide on average, and measures 277 miles in length. Its age is estimated at 2 billion years. The area covered by the Grand Canyon National Park is 1,904 square miles.
