Why Vacation in Molokai
Skip the more developed vacation destinations in Hawaii and head to the island of Molokai. Molokai is a vacation destination for someone looking to enjoy some peace and quiet on beaches that are virtually empty. Molokai is not a vacation for those who never slow down and always need to be busy with something. Some people just don't like the slow pace of life on the island, while others love it.

What to Do
How about spending each day of your vacation on a different beach? There is also deep-sea fishing, a golf course, surfing, and historic tours of the island. Three of the best beaches on West Molokai are Papohaku Beach, Poolau Beach, and Kapukaheku Beach.

Molokai Hotels
The Lodge at Molokai Ranch is a luxury resort located on the west side of the island. The Hotel Molokai is a less expensive hotel located on the water just outside of town.

Getting to Molokai
Getting to Molokai involves a ride on either an airplane or a boat. The ferry ride from Maui to Molokai leaves very early in the morning, but it is well worth watching the sunrise from the upper deck of the boat. For all the details on how to get to Molokai read our travel to Molokai page.

Getting Around While You are There
Unless you are really set on lounging around by the pool at the Molokai Ranch, you should rent a car once you reach the island. You will need a car of your own in order to explore many of the beaches on the island. There is only one gas station on the island so check your fuel tanks before you head out to explore Molokai.

When To Go
Vacation on Molokai at any time of the year. Since the island is so small, with few hotels, the island is never crowded.

What to Bring
A good pair of beach sandals will make it easier for you to walk on the paths down to the beaches, as well as over the rocks at the waters' edge.

Molokai Vacation Deals & Tips
If you decide to travel to Molokai by ferry, be sure to grab a seat on the upper deck and watch for whales and other marine life. The whale watching season runs from November to April with some sightings still possible into the month of May.
