Island Vacation on Lanai

Why Go
The island of Lanai is private and secluded. Spend your days relaxing on the beach, playing golf on two spectacular courses and enjoying the quiet of unspoilt nature.

Where to Stay
The luxurious Manele Bay Hotel, located next to the Hulopoe Bay beach, offers 250 rooms and suites surrounded by tropical gardens, ponds and ocean views. If you plan to spend most of your island vacation relaxing on the beach, then Manele Bay Hotel is a good place to stay on Lanai.

The colonial-style Lodge at Koele is located at 1,700 feet above sea level where it's cooler. The road between the two sister properties is curvy, uphill and 8 miles long. A shuttle transports guests between the two hotels.

Rates at the Manele Bay Hotel and the Lodge at Koele begin at $400 per night. Both hotels will be undergoing renovations in 2005, therefore some facilities may become unavailable. For more information and reservations, visit www.islandoflanai.com.

Other accommodation options on the island include the 11-room Hotel Lanai (www.hotellanai.com) and a few private rentals.

Island Vacation Activities
The island of Lanai is famous for its two golf courses, the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed Challenge at Manele and the Experience at Koele, designed by Greg Norman and Ted Robinson. Many vacationers come to the island for a day from Lahaina, Maui, just to play golf.

Other island vacation activities include diving, fishing, sailing, sporting clays, horseback riding and hiking. Or rent a four-wheel-drive vehicle to explore the island.

How to Get There
Lanai is a 30-minute flight from Maui or Honolulu. Expeditions (808-661-3756) operates five round-trip ferries daily from Lahaina, Maui.
