Great Snorkeling on the Big Island of Hawaii
Written by Vacation Idea.com Travel Editors.

Hawaii is a sunny, beautiful playground year-round. Snorkeling on the Big Island is fantastic and you need very little experience to get started. In fact, most resorts rent masks and snorkels, so all you have to do is show up.
Where to Go
If you want sunny warm days, stay on the West Side of the Big Island of Hawaii. This is where large resorts and many vacation rentals are situated. Great snorkeling beaches are located north of Kona, around the Mauna Lani and Mauna Kea resorts.
Best Time to Snorkel
Get in the water before 10 a.m. on a sunny morning. The water is usually the calmest then which makes for the best visibility.
Snorkeling Vacation Tip
Wear a UV rash guard to protect your exposed back from the tropical sun, especially in the first few days of the vacation.
Where to Stay
The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii has a man-made reef with some interesting underwater life, but if you take the resort shuttle to the Mauna Lani Beach Club you can snorkel in the beautiful bay where this photo was taken. There are a number of rainbow fish of different sizes, yellow and black-colored fish, pretty yellow coral and some larger fish at the outer rim of the bay.
Kona Village Resort is another great snorkeling spot during the summer months.
