Weekend Getaway in Las Vegas

Why Go
A five-hour 275 mile drive from Los Angeles, Las Vegas is a playground for adults. There are more things to see and do than you could possible squeeze into a weekend. From spectacular shows to shopping, dining and casinos, Las Vegas is a fun weekend getaway.

Las Vegas Attractions
Las Vegas hotels are in continuous competition to build bigger and more interesting attractions. The Fountains of Bellagio are our favorite. This free show incorporates famous musical pieces, jets of water and clever choreography to present a spectacle like no other. Bellagio Lake is difficult to miss since it's located in the center of the Strip.

If you can't quite make it to New York City, visit New York-New York Hotel in Las Vegas where you can see smaller versions of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. There is also a thrilling roller coaster ride with views of the city which will give you a rush of adrenaline on your weekend getaway.

The Venetian Hotel features replicas of Venetian landmarks, such as a smaller version of St. Mark's Square, Bridge of Sighs and the Rialto. Romantic gondola rides are popular on weekend getaways.

Across the Strip is the Mirage Volcano which erupts with colors and sounds after it gets dark outside.

Where to Stay
The Las Vegas Strip is several miles long. In the center of the strip, there is Paris Las Vegas, Bellagio Hotel, Aladdin, Bally's, Flamingo and Caesars Palace. To the south of these resorts lie Boardwalk, Monte Carlo, New York-New York, MGM Grand, Tropicana, Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay.

Imperial Palace is north of Flamingo and across from Caesars Palace. North of Imperial Palace lie Harrah's, the Venetian, the Mirage and Treasure Island. Further up the strip are hotels including the Stardust, Westward Ho, Circus Circus, Riviera and the Stratosphere.

Downtown Las Vegas is home to the Golden Nugget, Four Queens Hotel and the Fremont Street experience. Downtown is about 25 minutes by taxi from the mid-Strip hotels.

Where to Eat
Each Las Vegas hotel offers several dining options, ranging from elegant restaurants owned by celebrity chefs to all-you-can-eat buffets.

VacationIdea.com Vacation Tip
The road from Los Angeles is most crowded on Fridays and Sundays. If you are somewhat flexible with your weekend getaway plans, try to arrive before the Friday afternoon rush so that you don't have to wait at the hotel to check in.
