Scenic Drives
Taking a scenic drive is one of the more popular Maui activities. The island has an abundance of scenic views, ranging from tropical plants and waterfalls on the eastern end of Maui to desert-like landscape inside the Haleakala crater.
If you want to see the sunrise at Haleakala 10,000 feet above the sea level, you'll have to get started early in the morning and drive up the mountain in the dark. After viewing the sunrise, you'll be able to enjoy scenic views of Maui on the drive down the slopes of the dormant volcano.
Another scenic drive is along the coast of Maui the Seven Sacred Pools. Along the way, you'll be able to pull over for a view of lush tropical plants and waterfalls.
Golf on Maui
Maui is famous for its golf courses which offer scenic ocean views and well-maintained fairways. Kapalua on West Maui offers three championship golf courses, including the Plantation Course where Mercedes Championships are held every year.
The Wailea Golf Club offers three golf courses and a golf academy.
The more secluded Maui Prince hotel offers two great Makena golf courses.
Watersports
Maui offers many great spots for snorkeling. Depending on where you are staying, try Malu'aka Beach, Hamoa Beach or Napili Bay.
For scuba diving, Lahaina Divers is a good choice. This PADI five-star facility lets vacationers choose from 60 different dive sites.
Numerous companies based in Lahaina on West Maui offer boat tours such as glass-bottom boat tours, whale-watching, fishing and snorkeling. You can usually find information about these activities through your hotel once you get to Maui. Or visit the historic town of Lahaina and sign up in person in the Lahaina Harbor.
Hiking
Maui offers beautiful scenery, coastal trails and mountain hikes. You can sign up for a guided hike through your hotel, or explore the island on your own.
Haleakala National Park is a must-see. Visit the summit and hike inside the giant crater. Or drive to the eastern shores of Maui and hike near the Kipahulu Visitor Center.
