Christmas Tree at the Rockefeller Center

Written by VacationIdea.com Travel Editors.
The lighting of the tree at the Rockefeller Center in the first days of December marks the beginning of the Christmas season in New York City. Thousands of people flock to the Rockefeller Center for a glimpse of the tree lighting ceremony, but unless you arrive very early you will not be able to get near the tree. For this year's tree lighting ceremony schedule, visit www.rockefellercenter.com.

The tree is illuminated daily from 5:30am to 11:30pm, all day on Christmas, and from 5:30am to 9pm on New Year's Eve.

A popular New York City winter pastime is skating at the Rockefeller Center ice rink. Bring your own skates, or rent them at the rink.
