Sheep Meadow
Written by VacationIdea.com Travel Editors.
Sheep Meadow was until 1934 just what its name implies - a meadow for a flock of sheep who slept, accompanied by their shepherd, in a part of what is now the Tavern on the Green restaurant.
The 15-acre Sheep Meadow is today one of the favorite spots for families, sunbathers, picnickers, kite flyers, and other visitors who come to admire the New York City skyline.
Sheep Meadow is located at West side/mid-Park from 66th to 69th Streets and is open from May to mid-October dawn to dusk in fair weather.
