The Historic Rockefeller Center Observation Deck Reopens

Written by VacationIdea.com Travel Editors.
The Rockefeller Center Observation Deck once again offers some of the best views of New York City. Originally opened to the public in 1933, the observation deck was closed for the last two decades until it reopened on November 1, 2005.

When to Go
Visit during the day or in the evening for night views of the city, since the deck is open daily from 8:30am to midnight. The latest time you can board the sky shuttle is at 11:30pm.

The observatory is situated 850 feet (259.8 meters) above the ground on 67th –70th floors of the Rockefeller Center.

The Observation Deck
Fun begins when you board the shuttle with a transparent glass ceiling that lets you watch the ascent to the top.

Transparent safety glass panels surround the indoor viewing area on the 67th –70th floors so that visitors can enjoy awesome views of Central Park, the Hudson and East Rivers, as well as famous New York City landmarks.

How to Book
Introductory ticket prices are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and $9 for children six to 11 years old.

Tickets can be booked through www.topoftherocknyc.com, or by calling 877-692-7625. There are several terminals on-site as well, but it's a good idea to book before you go to avoid the wait.

VacationIdea.com Tip
The entrance leading to the Rockefeller Center sky shuttle is located on 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Arrive early and view the multimedia exhibition of the history of Rockefeller Center in the atrium.
