Make a Wish at the Trevi Fountain

Written by Vacation Idea.com Travel Editors.

The legend says that anyone who tosses a coin over their shoulder into the Trevi Fountain will some day return to Rome. This legend, and the fountain's architectural beauty, make the Trevi Fountain one of the most popular and photographed spots in Rome.

The fountain was designed by Nicola Salvi in the 18th century and was made famous by Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita. At the center of the fountain is Neptune, God of the Sea according to the ancient Roman mythology. Water collects first in smaller pools underneath the marble statues and then flows to the center.

The Trevi Fountain is located within walking distance of the Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona. It is situated in the Trevi square which, unlike the open Piazza Navona, appears very small compared to the fountain.
